The issues: Identified the three principles that underpin Democracy Identified issues that we’re either mad, sad or glad about
4
This lesson we will: Look at grouping these issues we’ve identified Choose an issue we feel most strongly about to look at more closely in groups Brainstorm how this issue impacts on people
5
How can we classify these issues? Open up your workbooks to page 3. Let’s try to group these issues based upon the selected labels. We can make our own if we need to. For each issue, write a label to group it on a post-it and stick this next to the issue. For example, equal (gay) marriage rights we would group that under ‘equality issues’
6
Group your notes under these headings: Ethical Environmental Social Human Rights Equality Safety
7
Issue: subject of concern, the central or most important topic in a discussion or debate
8
Think – about these issues for a moment on your own. What are the problems? Where have you seen consequences of this? Pair – Discuss your issues with a partner. Why do you feel strongly about them? Is there one that is of the most concern to you? Share – Pick the issue you feel most strongly about and locate others who felt the same. Sit down and as a group complete page 4 of your handbooks.
