What is Terrorism? The systematic use of terror for coercion. In your own words? Who are the combatants in terrorism? How does terrorism make people feel? What kind of images do you think are associated with terrorism? When does terrorism end?

What is War? Organized violent conflict between at least 2 groups. The two groups are well-defined. What does this mean? War is often the result of a breakdown of peaceful resolutions. What does this mean? How does a war end?

In Times of War… When can the government take away our rights? For our own protection? USA Patriot Act of 2001 Passed after 9/11 to combat terrorism Expanded the powers of the FBI and the CIA and created the Department of Homeland Security. These agencies have the freedom to track the communications (telephone, email, and etc.) Allowed government access to personal, medical, financial, and educational records of people.

Terrorism = War? With a partner… Make a Venn Diagram showing the similarities and differences between terrorism and war. Remember there will be some overlap and you can write that information where the two circles meet.

Homework Due Tomorrow Position Paper #1: Capital Punishment - 1 page typed, 12 pt font, and double-spaced. Can be bullet points - Explain your stance on the death penalty. Use the fact sheet and the movie as evidence to support your stance. Has your stance changed after this unit? Why or why not?
