2 Purpose of the Symposium 1. To present a world-wide analysis of coaching science and practice through presentations that focus on Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, and South America. 2. Increase our general understanding of coaching science through global and comparative surveys of different countries.

4 Tasks  To present a general analysis of similarities and differences between countries in a given continent in terms of coaching research and coaching practices.  The content of each presentation will vary but will include some of the following elements:  Most dominant research approaches  Most dominant theoretical frameworks  Most influential work  Publication outlets and research funding  Certification standards and coaching education

5 Presenters 1. North America: Sandrine Rangeon 2. Asia: Koon Tech, Koh 3. South America: Newton Santos 4. Europe: Julian North 5. Oceania: Cliff Mallett

6 Limitations 1. The bias and limited knowledge of one person or group of researchers representing one continent. 2. Difficult to survey certain continent because of languages differences. 3. Difficult to provide a perspective of coaching research and coaching practices of several countries in a 12 minute presentation. 4. Areas not represented (e.g. Africa, Middle East).
