2. Poland has a small immigrant population. There were about 92,574 residence-card holders at the end of 2011 Immigrants from outside the European Union generally do not view Poland as an attractive destination becase the Polish economy and high level of unemploymant do not need large numbers of new workers. In fact, many migrants from Eastern Europe and Asia still consider Poland as a transit country or a gateway to the West. What is more, the government has made immigrattion to Poland difficult. 3. Emigration in general Emigration appears to be one of the most burning problems in Poland after entering the European Union in 2004. Based on data gathered by immigration offices up to 2.5 million of Polish people have already emigrated to other countries.

5. Emigrants’ occupations Most of Polish emigrants are employed in such branches as heavy industry, gastronomy, healthcare and hotel industry.

6. Emigrants’ aspirations It seems to be a serious problem that Polish emigrants are mostly employed on posts inadequate to their possibilities and education. Only 15% of them seek and find jobs that could fit their skills or qualifications.
