3. Mrs. Meyn Mrs. Meyn  I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania.  This is my 13 th year teaching! WOW!  I like to sleep (when I get the chance), go to the beach, cook and bake!  I live in Queen Creek with my husband Ryan, our son Gavin and our 2 Jack Russell terriers, Trent and Gia.

Daily Schedule  8:30-8:45: Morning Meeting/DOL  8:45-10:10: Reading Block  10:10-10:30: Math Warm Up  10:30-11:40: Math  11:45-12:20: Lunch/Recess  12:25-12:40: Daily Oral Language/Grammar  12:40-1:20: Writing  1:20-1:50: Specials  1:50-2:40: Social Studies/ Science  2:40-2:55: Homework/Agenda/Reflection  3:00: Dismissal

Reading Block  Harcourt Trophies Program  Literature Studies  Nightly Reading (approx. 15 min. per night)  Reading Reflections and Book Reports  Read Naturally: to build fluency and comprehension  Assessments  DIBELS  DRA  Skills Assessments  Comprehension Assessments  Students will be placed in a leveled group for reading based on their reading level.  Students will receive whole group instruction, as well as, small group, and individual instruction throughout the year.

Spelling   100 No Excuse Words   There will be no spelling tests given on Fridays during reading block.   Students will be assessed on spelling during their daily writing and published work from their Write From the Beginning samples.   Students will be asked to study vocabulary rather than spelling in reading block.

Math  Scott Foresman (emphasizes vocabulary and builds upon skills with incorporated spiral review)  TERC Investigations  We will focus on:  Place Value  Number Sense  Multiplication  Division  Time  Money  Graphing  Fractions  Geometry  Measurement  Probability  Discrete Mathematics **CUSD Curriculum outlines 4 chapters a quarter

12. Homework  Agenda must be signed EVERY NIGHT!  Homework is sent home daily. (20-30 minutes per night)  Students should complete homework independently.  Assignments are due the following day.  Reading nightly is a part of daily homework.

Grading  Letter grades in math, reading and writing.  Participation and Excellence Towards the Standards grades are awarded for Science and Social Studies.  Look at the work weekly in the Friday Folder! *There should be no surprises!*  Progress Reports will go home half way through the quarter.

15. AIMS Testing  Test Dates: April  I will pass along the dates when we receive them.  1 ½ hour – 2 hours of testing for 3 days  2 Sections of Reading 2 Sections of Math Support:  Skill based instruction and grouping  Parent support at home

16. Tax Credit Donations   $400 for married couples   $200 for individual tax payers   Donations to school will support field trips for all grade levels, Art Masterpiece, and after school clubs.

17. 3 rd Grade Mining Field Trip  Trip can be paid for by tax credit donations for students only  Parent chaperones may pay with cash or check for their trip.  Trip Dates: November 10 * Informational Meeting August 17th August 17th
