Characteristics Monarchs are insects. They are invertebrates. They are cold blooded. They have orange and black wing plus white dots. The monarch wings are covered with thousand of tiny scales. Monarch wings are bright.

Habitat They live in North America. They migrate to Mexico in winter.
They can live in southern California in the winter.

Food They eat milkweed leaves. Monarchs eat nectar from flowers.
They can drink the juice from oranges, bananas, and watermelons.

Fun Facts Monarch wings flap slower than other butterflies.
A monarch was spotted 11,000 feet high by a glider pilot. The males have a dot on its back and females don’t.
