Output Styles Output Styles determine the formatting and presentation of citations in EndNote and Word including –In-text citation –Bibliography –Footnotes EndNote has 1000+ output styles If these do not meet your needs your can amend an existing style We recommend you amend an existing style rather than create one from scratch

Finding and viewing an Output Style In EndNote choose Edit, Output Styles, Open Style Manager Select the required style from the list Click on More Info Click Style Preview to preview the style

Editing an Output Style Select the Style of your choice in the Output Style Manager Click Edit to Edit the Style

Editing an Output Style This example shows the Template for how bibliographic information is displayed for 5 different types of reference.

Example: Modifying the Citation Template To make the Author and Date superscript, first select Templates under Citations

Example: Modifying the Citation Template Then –Make all changes –Click File, then Save As… –Don’t forget to change the name of the style file to something different like MyStyle.enl

Editing an Output Style The result: you can see that the Citation Template has been edited. Both fields and punctuation will be displayed in superscript

Using University PCs and Modifying Styles For the section on modifying reference styles you will need to make a few changes to Endnote –Copy of all EndNote Style files to your P: drive –Set the preferences in EndNote to use these styles rather than the ones on the C: drive This is because on University machines you are unable to modify style files on the C: drive The tutorial materials takes you through how to do this
