1 Projectile Lab Part 1: Purpose: Our objective was to determine the velocity of a projectile shot horizontally from a ballistics launcher. Materials: ballistics pendulum, projectile, meter stick, carbon paper, blue meanie.

2 g = 9.80 m/s 2 Vertical and horizontal components of motion (velocity and acceleration) do NOT affect each other! v=x/t, a=v/t, x=v i t+0.5at 2 Hints: 1) separate vertical and horizontal motion. 2) horizontal – think inertia! 3) vertical – ignore the horizontal motion! Background:

3 Procedure (Part 1) Shoot the projectile horizontally. Measure the vertical drop of the projectile. Record and measure the horizontal displacement of the projectile by placing carbon paper under the landing spot of the projectile. Calculate initial velocity!

4 Procedure (part 2) Calculate the horizontal displacement of the projectile when shot horizontally off of the table.
