E Pluribus Unum- means many types of people form one country. United States- is varied because people from all over the world live here.

Census- official count done every ten years of all people in the U.S. Immigrants- people who come from other countries to live in the United States.

Democracy- people have the power to make decisions about government. Constitution- written plan of our government.

According to the Constitution, the people run the government. Basic rights of U.S. Citizens: freedom of speech and religion right to a fair trial right to vote when age 18

Free Enterprise- allows people to start their own businesses and own property. Supply and Demand- describes how much of a product there is and how much of it people will buy.

Price of a good is affected by supply and demand. Many people want a good- the price will usually go up. Few people want a good- price usually goes down.

Export- a good one country sells to another country. Import- a good that a country buys from another country.

Climate- Southern states have a warmer climate than the Northern states due to being closer to the equator. Land closer to the equator absorbs more direct sunlight and is warmer as a result.

Irrigation- process of bringing water to dry land.

Fossil fuels- coal, oil, and natural gas used for energy.

Renewable Resource- can be replaced, example: trees. Nonrenewable resources- cannot be easily replaced, example: oil.

Important for all people to conserve resources because there is a limited amount of most resources. We rely on these resources for food, energy, and building materials.
