Addition is the process of putting items together and counting the total number in the set.

If we have 2 apples and someone gives us 3 more, we end up with a total of 5 apples.

If we need 6 apples for a pie, we might use 4 red apples and 2 yellow apples. This would give us a total of 6 apples.
