BACKGROUND PASSAGE OVERVIEW After His conversation with the Samaritan woman, Jesus spent two additional days in Sychar. Then He moved on to Galilee, eventually returning for a time to the village of Cana. Tell Other You Believe (John 4:39-42): Because of the Samaritan woman’s testimony, other people in Sychar believed in Jesus and invited Him to stay longer. Still others believed as He taught. Challenge Others to Believe (John 4:43-48): After two days in Sychar, Jesus entered Galilee, where He was welcomed by some. In the village of Cana, Jesus was approached by a royal officer from Capernaum whose son was dying. Jesus challenged the offer to believe. Guide Others to Believe (John 4:49-54): Jesus promised the official that His son would live, and then sent the man away. When the officer arrived in Capernaum, he learned his son was alive, having recovered at the very time Jesus gave the promise to the boy’s father. The officer and his entire household then believed in Jesus.

KEY DOCTRINE: The new birth of man’s spirit by God’s Holy Spirit means the birth of love for others. It is the duty of every child of God to seek constantly to win the lost to Christ by verbal witness undergirded by a Christian lifestyle. Faith in Action: In your devotion time this week, write or review your testimony of salvation, so that you can tell about it in one or two minutes. Ask the Lord to open your eyes and mind to opportunities this week to share your testimony with at least one unsaved person. WHAT NOW? MY MISSION: Write a letter to the editor of your hometown newspaper or post an internet message and warmly declare your faith in Christ. Call a family member and talk to him or her about the importance of faith and how faith in Christ has changed your life. Pray fervently and faithfully for your pastor, teachers, and church leaders to boldly declare Jesus’ power to save.
