It follows the behavior system Green, pink, & white= Super (very top)= Blue or red= phone call and/or note in the folder

R EADING & W RITING In reading, students will learn about: Researching Different genres & why they matter Comprehension Strategies & how to use them when reading Responding to our reading In writing, students will learn about: The mechanics of writing Various forms of writing Purposes of writing Applying the writing process

H OMEWORK Math & Reading Homework Given on the first day of the week Due on the first day of the following week, usually Monday 3 reading responses per week Complete one reading response per night based on the reading of that evening Spelling Homework Notebook Spelling list given on first day of the week Spelling menu inside the notebook in Spanish & English Due on FRIDAY

W ORKING T OGETHER A T H OME Please encourage your child to read for 20 to 30 minutes everyday and sign the reading log Discuss the book & the reading response with your child Please work with your child on weekly homework Have fun working with your child

W ORKING T OGETHER A T H OME After this session, visit the library! Families may have their own library card to use in Farine’s library Check out up to 10 books at a time!

D ISMISSAL Safety is always first!

D ISMISSAL Your child’s safety is our first priority & is the reason for our procedures set in place. Please make sure your child knows who they are going home with and who it is “safe” to go home with. Send a NOTE with your child if someone different will be picking them up; or if they are being picked up a different way. In the event of an emergency, the office must be notified if we are to release your child to someone else.

C AR R IDERS Release from the north gym Must have a car tag number assigned to the student The number must be visible on the students’ backpack Its provided by the teacher & we’re working on more aesthetically pleasing tags. Please make sure your student knows their number. This will assist in a quicker dismissal.

W ALKERS Release from the designated area for second grade. Please be patient & allow your child to notify the teacher that they are leaving. Remember, safety is first! We are working on a safer, more efficient system so stay tuned!

B US & D AYCARE Release from the cafeteria Please notify your child’s teacher for any changes in their daycare or bus information.

S NACKS IN THE C LASSROOM New to Farine! All students are provided a snack It is their choice to eat it or not Please make sure your student is aware of any possible food allergies Snacks accommodate most food allergies but just to be safe make sure your child is aware of what they can & cannot eat. We eat before lunch, usually around 10:00am

D RESS C ODE Collared shirt (polo style): long or short sleeve in the following colors: white, light blue, navy blue, hunter green, or red Sweaters: white, light blue, navy blue, or hunter green Bottoms: Navy or Khaki pants, shorts and for girls: skirts, jumpers, and skorts Every Monday students may wear a college shirt with uniform bottoms EVERY Friday students may wear jeans & a Farine spirit shirt

C LASS P ARTIES & B IRTHDAY C ELEBRATIONS Class Parties Our class will have 2 parties: Christmas and Valentine’s Day We invite parent donations and support! Birthday Celebrations Please follow the Irving ISD food guidelines http://www.irvingisd.net/Page/1698 Food must be purchased & not made in the same location with any tree nuts Given before dismissal but eaten at home One celebration a month per class We will celebrate ALL birthdays on the LAST Friday of each month!

M EDICATIONS Medications must be in their original containers. You must include a written note detailing instructions All medications must be kept with the nurse until it time to take them. (This includes cough drops)

PTO Join PTO! PTO provides many things for your child’s classroom PTO offers monthly meetings and programs 100% participation requested

V OLUNTEERING Visit our new Parent Liaison, Elizabeth, in the Parent Center Please fill out a volunteer form in the classroom When visiting the school, please sign-in at the office and wear a visitor badge at all times Anyone wishing to volunteer in the classroom (this includes field trips) MUST have a completed and approved Criminal History Form on file
