(imaginary, unreal condition) If I/you/he/she/they (past tense)… I/you/he/she/they would (verb)… Examples: If you bought a new car, what kind would it be? If I bought a new car, it would be a Mercedes Benz. *If I were a rich man, I wouldn’t ride a bicycle. (“to be” is the exception – use “I were”, not “I was”)
