Area of Concern Birds in the canteen
The birds have been taking food from the users of the canteen. The birds are very disruptive. Hygiene problems Cause diseases Noise pollution More than 50% of the students surveyed have been negatively affected by the birds.
3
Why we chose this problem
Was the most serious problem currently in our school. We felt that the birds were a nuisance. From our survey, we realised that more then 50% of the students were negatively affected by the birds.
4
Solving the problem… We found that we could not just kill the birds, as they play an important part in the ecosystem. We decided that the best way was to tackle the root problem – educating the students
5
Plan of Action Put up posters Gave out leaflets We made a video – skit
Website on our project Bird Buster Week (will be held in late October) ~Exhibition ~Games and Galore Posters - to inform students about the things they could do to prevent the birds Designed a board game and a card game for the students to have fun while learning about prevention. ‘Prevention is better than cure!’
6
Why we chose these solutions
Basically, we realised that the problem, aside from the birds themselves, also had to do with the students. Sometimes, without knowing it, the students attract the birds to the canteen by Leaving utensils around Dropping food around and not picking it up Leaving bins open (birds will come and scavenge the remnants of the food) Thus we decided that educating the students and trying to change their bad habits would be most effective.

More About the Bird Buster Week
Will be held in late October, week 8 of our school term, from the 27th to 31st of October Has lots of games and information to attract the students Has our specially designed board game for them to have fun and yet learn more about the bird problem that we are trying to solve Hope to raise the awareness level of this issue of the students in Rosyth
