1 How to use this tutorial > You can run the whole show by using the slide show button (excluding firefox) at the bottom right, use the escape key to exit the show before the end. >There are some demonstrations of how some of the tools work so click on the title in the outline to re-play the slide if you miss the demo. >You can choose a slide to view from the outline pane on the left. > You can scroll between pages by using the slide navigation controls at the bottom centre of the page. > Close the show with the ‘x’ at the top right corner of the page.

2 Select a topic from the list

3 The tree The tree opens at your selected topic

4 Tree Now expand the branch you want to see

5 Add a single layer Click the link to add a single layer onto the map

6 Add multiple layers Or tick a number of boxes add more than one layer Then click Update Map to add the layers

7 Remove a single layer To remove a layer click the legend and Remove layer

8 Remove multiple layers Or use the SELECT LAYERS tab to remove more than one Then click Update Map

9 Layer tools Click on legend to open and display tools

10 Change colour You can Change colour

11 Show details Metadata You can check the Show details/metadata for information…

12 Find out how the layer is created …find out how the layer was createdClick lineage link for detailed scientific information To get back to the map click Return to Map

13 What’s here for this layer To check the attribute details for a specific layer use What’s here?Click the map where you are interested ?

14 Feature details The Feature Details are listed To get back to the map click Return to Map

15 Hide a layer You can also Hide the layerAnd then Show the layer

16 Search for a layer You can also find a layer by searching for it The results are listed under SEARCH RESULTS

17 Search for a place You can also find a place by searching for it The results are listed under SEARCH RESULTS

18 Tool bar You can change the tool bar to show Simple tools or All tools

19 What’s here for all layers To find what’s here for all layers on the map use tool bar what’s here ?

20 Feature details The Feature Details are listed for all layers under the point To get back to the map click Return to Map

21 Move map Move Map in any direction with Move Map

22 Zoom Zoom InClick once to halve the scaleOr Click and drag to define the area

23 Zoom and centre on You can zoom to a location from the list

24 Zoom to Or zoom to a specific scale The Map centre will remain the same

25 Draw a polygon, rectangle Draw a polygon or rectangle to search area species distribution layers The results are listed under SEARCH RESULTS

26 Measure the area You use What’s Here to find the area and perimeter of a rectangle ? The area is under UserGeometry

27 Measure distance You can measure a distance Use Erase to remove any geometries drawn

28 Reset map You can reset the map to remove all layers you have loaded The map resets to the land and sea topic
