Who Born on May 4 th 1825 in Ealing, near London. Married Wife Henrietta in 1855. Had one son named Leonard. Died June, 29 th 1895.

Only had 2 years of childhood education. Began medical apprenticeship at age 15. Won Scholarship to study at Charing Cross Hospital. Assistant surgeon on H.M.S Rattlesnake, age 21. Returned to England in 1854.

What Thomas Huxley was a biologist and naturalist. He was an assistant surgeon for many years. He also taught at the School of Mines.

Huxley's Work Very passionate about Darwin’s theory of Natural Selection. Best known for debate in June 1860. Defended Darwin’s theory with ease during debate. Was also very critical of Darwin’s Theory.

Huxley and Darwin Although Huxley was very supportive of Darwin, He did not always believe in evolution. It was not until reading Darwin’s “Origin of species” that he realized evolution was the best explanation. After reading Darwin’s theory, Huxley responded with a letter.

Huxley's Legacy Son Leonard was a noted biographer. Leonards son Julian was an author of the evolutionary synthesis. Leonards son Andrew won a Noble prize 1963 (medicine). Leonards son Aldous was a novelist, screenwriter and essayist. Julians son Francis became a noted anthropologist.
