2 2 Fafo  Established by the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions, 1982  Independent research foundation, 1993  Currently two institutes  Institute for Applied International Studies (AIS)  Institute for Labour and Welfare Research  Fafo AIS currently employs 34 full-time staff members, and work in  Middle East, Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe

3 3 Research focus -Living Conditions -Quantitative and qualitative studies concerning people and households, their living conditions and coping strategies in poverty, conflict and transition -People-centred Security -Impacts of violence and other sources of vulnerability and international policy responses to these, e.g. armed groups and de- mobilization; refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs); Trafficking in women to prostitution in Norway – the dynamics involved and policy responses -Ethical Values of Production -Sources of child labour, ethical frameworks for foreign investment in ‘weak governance zones’
