1 Daily Agenda for November 4 th 1 st Law Demos: Do Now – take one! POGIL Activity: Demo-Mania! Exit Slip: Newton’s First Law Tonight’s Homework Video Analysis: Newton’s 1 st Law. Take notes on the first 5 minutes and answer the questions. Feel free to watch the entire video, it’s kind of awesome. THIS WILL BE COLLECTED AND RETURNED. Chapter 4 Vocabulary

3 Today’s BIG Questions Why do things move the way they do? Why do cars have seatbelts? Why is it difficult to change the state of motion of massive objects?

4 POGIL Work efficiently – check in at STOP SIGNS! Time managers – approx. 8 minutes per activity Materials Managers – You are responsible for: 5 nickels 1 butter knife 1 penny 1 index card 1 beaker 1 cart 1 rubber band 1 blob of clay 1 cloth 2 blocks ***You MUST check in your boxes with us at the end of the activity

5 Exit When you are finished with the POGIL activity, CHECK IN with a teacher. You will receive your next set of instructions ◦ Teacher will explain 1 st Law ◦ Students will go back and complete any questions asking you to explain in terms of 1 st Law ◦ Your Exit Slip will be to finish your Do Now (last column) and turn in

6 Newton’s First Law Newton’s 1 st Law (aka Law of Inertia) states that: every object continues  in a state of rest,  or of uniform speed in a straight line, unless acted on by a non-zero net force. Simply put, things tend to keep doing what they are already doing…UNLESS acted on by a non-zero net force This tendency of objects to keep doing what they are already doing is called inertia INTERIA DOESN’T WANT TO CHANGE!

7 Homework! Finish final column for the 3 Do Now Demos; turn in Take homework handout: Video Analysis: Newton’s 1 st Law. Take notes on the first 5 minutes and answer the questions. Feel free to watch the entire video, it’s kind of awesome. THIS WILL BE COLLECTED AND RETURNED. Finish today’s POGIL if necessary Chapter 4 Vocabulary ◦ Read & study Ch 4. (if you forgot to do this for last class’ HW) ◦ List and define ALL 13 terms
