Story vs. Plot Presents a different time and or space in a narrative Gladiator (2000) Plot- shows events on screen and how they are organized or presented Story- sets events used to create order in a narrative Diegesis- vocal narrative, description of events or characters. An Omni-present voice. – Examples: The Grinch (2000) Goodfellas (1990)

Time Duration and Frequency in a film Temporal Order- Is not always in chronological order, depicts events Temporal Duration- Distinctions of time – Screen duration- Time of the entire film – Plot duration- Time the plot covers – Story duration- Time the story and events covers Temporal Frequency- Assumptions based on clues or past instances in a film. – Places emphasis – There be different stories in a plot
