The Ganges River is considered sacred by the people of India. The Ganges river is polluted. This pollution comes from human use.

Unsafe Drinking Water Causes Waterborne Disease Cholera Typhoid fever Dracunculiasis – also called guinea worm disease.

Cholera An infection of the intestine caused by drinking water contaminated with the bacteria Vibrio cholerae. Sever diarrhea, vomiting and death.

Typhoid Fever Caused by drinking water contaminated with the feces of an infected person. Fever, profuse sweating, diarrhea, enlarged liver, death.

Dracunculiasis Also called guinea worm disease. Caused by drinking water contaminated with water fleas. Fleas devlope into large worms that cause painful sores and loss of limbs.

Availability of Safe Water Our water is safe because it is treated. 20% of the world population does not have easy access to safe water.
