Beware of misguided motives A proper spiritual focus is a safeguard. – Rejoice in the Lord (1) – Watch out for evildoers (2) Promote legalism Sap the spirit of worship A proper spiritual focus has the appropriate confidence. – Put no confidence in the flesh (3) – Glory in Christ Jesus alone (3)

3. II. Beware of misleading accomplishments Paul had more reasons to put confidence in himself. – Met all the religious traditions – Excelled at all the religious activities Zealous Legalistically righteous Paul considered it all loss. – Compared everything to knowing the Lord – Considered everything else as rubbish

4. III. Beware of mismanaged goals To know Christ is to be found in Him. – A righteousness through faith in Christ. Comes only from God It is by faith – Not a righteousness from the Law. It is our own It is an attempt to earn God’s approval

5. III. Beware of mismanaged goals To know Christ and the power of His resurrection – Having the fellowship of sharing in His sufferings – Expecting to attain to the resurrection from the dead
