Things owner’s control Equine Finances –Commonly misunderstood After hours vs. business hours - referral What’s a horse cost these days? ~$1798.00/year ($4.93) for 15 years That is a 10 year old ranch gelding used for 15 years $2500 horse $3500 saddle, pad, breast collar $100 head stall, reins, bit $480 farrier fees shod year round (on going cost) $260 veterinary fees - 5-way, WNV, deworming, dental prophylaxis (on going cost) $175 blanket $640 hay - 4 ton/year feeding 12 months $160/ton – (on going cost) What’s not on here – trailer, truck, maintenance, stall, hay storage, etc.
