2. THE 80’S IN THE TURKISH PRIMARY SCHOOL SCENE Our teacher used to present those who eventually learn how to read and write well with a red ribbon. Also, I don’t know if it still exists, but when I was at the first grade, there was an apple tree in our classroom. The teacher would draw an apple for each student and she would paint them red as students were learning how to read and write. The best student in the class would check his apple the first thing everyday as he entered the class. We used to study really hard for a ripe apple.
