Sra. Schwarz Negatives To make a sentence negative in Spanish, you usually put “no” in front of the verb or expression. In English, you usually use the word “not.” No me gusta cantar. I do not like to sing.

Sra. Schwarz Negatives No me gusta correr. I do not like to run. No me gusta patinar. I do not like to skate. No me gusta escribir cuentos. I do not like to write stories.

Sra. Schwarz Negatives To answer a question negatively, in Spanish you often use “no” twice. The first “no” answers the question. The second “no” implies I do not or I don’t.

Sra. Schwarz Negatives If you want to say that you do not like either of two (or more) choices, use the expression ni…ni: No me gusta ni nadar ni dibujar. I don’t like either swimming or drawing. I like neither swimming nor drawing.

Sra. Schwarz Negatives I don’t like either going to school or studying. No me gusta ni ir a la escuela ni estudiar. I like neither reading books nor reading magazines. No me gusta ni leer libros ni leer revistas.
