(CALIFORNIA STRATEGIC PLAN ON SUICIDE PREVENTION) 10 TH ranking cause of death in California Older adults over the age of 85 have the highest suicide rate in California Suicide is the 3 rd largest cause of death between the ages of 16 to 25 Males are three times more likely than females to die by suicide than women Women attempt suicide three times more than men, and are more likely to be hospitalized for self-inflicted injuries
