Course description The aim of this advance physical chemistry laboratory course (CHEM 146C) is to broaden the knowledge of undergraduate students regarding important instrumentation skills, physical measurements and materials characterization techniques. During the lectures, students will learn principles of key techniques used in experiments, followed by valuable hands-on experience on instruments and skills during the laboratory session. Students will perform 8 experiments and finish a typically 3–4 pages report for each experiment. Some lab report questions will help students for the report writing. Students need to do literature search and present the experimental results in the format of scientific journal. The report includes five parts, i) introduction/background of the research topic ii) summary of experimental method and mechanism iii) data analysis and discussion iv) conclusion v) references The draft report (word document) is due one week after the laboratory session, and it will be reviewed and returned to the students for corrections. Both the draft and final version of reports will be graded.
