2. Word 1: Ascend Def: To go upwards Sent: Jackie ascended the stairs to the 3rd floor where her grandfather lived.

3. Word 2: Secluded / Seclusion Def: Isolated, Away from other people Sent: Her grandfather lived alone and secluded on the 3 rd and rarely went out.

4. Word 3: Errand Def: A short, quick trip to get something or do something Sent: Jackie had been sent on an errand to bring her grandfather breakfast.

5. Word 4: Homicide Def: To kill another person Sent: Jackie found her grandfather on the floor, an apparent homicide.

6. Word 5: Dwelling Def: Place where someone lives Sent: Grandpa had chose this dwelling because he assumed it was safe.

7. Word 6: Putrid Def: Rotten and foul smelling Sent: Something smelled putrid. She wondered how long he had laid there.

8. Word 7: Inept Def: Lacking in skill, sense or ability to do something, unable to do Sent: Jackie didn’t know what to do. She felt helpless and inept.

9. Word 8: Indignant Def: Angry and upset because you feel something is unfair and unjust Sent: Jackie felt indignant. Who could have done this to her grandpa?

11. Word 10: Murky Def: Unclear, dirty water Sent: Jackie looked out the window at the murky water that settled outside the building.

12. Word 11: Sympathy / Sympathetic Def: To feel bad for another person Sent: Grandpa all of a sudden looked up at Jackie with a sympathetic look.

18. Word 17: Gorgeous Def: Very attractive and pleasing to look at Sent: Jackie loved the way her grandfather always said she was unbelievably gorgeous.

19. Word 18: Delicate Def: Something that is very nice and dainty but can easily be broken Sent: Jackie’s grandfather worried about her because she was so lovely, yet so delicate.

20. Word 19: Array Def: Large selection of something Sent: Jackie‘s grandfather had an array of stories to tell her. He was never boring.

21. Word 20: Optimist / Optimism Def: One who usually sees positive outcomes or good things will happen Sent: Jackie was optimistic about that she would someday publish her grandpa’s story.
