English Readers-sent home daily with reading for homework listed. Focus on reading and comprehension. Asking them questions, summarise what they’ve read, talk about the characters, setting, feelings, find tricky words, getting them to reread it to find an answer to a question etc. Join the library(5 finger rule). Fiction and Factual Books.

English Fry’s List – one list per week to read (after midterm). This will greatly help your child’s reading fluency and comprehension. Spellings- Word Study Spellings- A strategy to use is ‘Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check’. Also examine shape of the letter, sounding it out, say it as its written etc.

Writing Different types of writing. Practise writing at home-getting your child to help with writing a shopping list, a card, letters etc. Free Writing Copy.

Oral Language Talking to your child about their day. Who, When, What, Where Why, How? Poetry Readers Curriculum

Maths Number-addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. Large emphasis this year on place value, hundreds, tens units i.e. is 1 hundred, 4 tens and 3 units. Using different types and terms in mathematical language. Tables both multiplying and dividing. Recognising maths in the environment- home, outside, in school etc.

SESE-Geography, History and Science Group work using informational packs. Project work- may need to research topics at home. Independent workers.

Gaeilge Emphasis in school is on speaking Irish and being able to follow instructions in Irish. In fourth class, children listen, speak, read and write in Irish. TG4 Look for Irish in the environment Getting your child to teach you a few phrases.

Other Subjects Drama, Music, Art- Any parents with a particular interest in any of these areas, please feel free to volunteer. P. E. –Dance, Gymnastics, Games, Athletics and Outdoor and Adventure. Swimming in Term 1. SPHE-Stay Safe, Road Safety, Water Safety, Healthy eating, themselves and their families. Goodness Me, Goodness You.

After School Activities GAA- Starting Monday 5 th October. Sign up at any time during the year if your child would like to join!

Presentation of Work Date and Title all work. Use a ruler to line your page and in maths. Always sign the journals. Keep up to date with corrections. Ensure that all children have pencils, colours, rubbers and sharpeners.
