Nuclear Energy By: Charissa Grant Gedalia Burwell Darion David David Claude

How does nuclear power produce energy? 1.) The power plant is fueled by uranium 2.) The fuel is placed in a reactor and the individual atoms split 3.) When split, they release great amounts of energy 4.) The energy is then used to heat water until it turns to steam 5.) The steam pushes turbines which force wires to interact with magnetic fields to produce electric current
4
Yucca Mountain The Yucca Mountain is in Nevada near Las Vegas metropolitan area. It is used to store nuclear waste which was declared in 1987.
5
Advantages of Nuclear Energy 1. Nuclear plants generate a lot more energy then other sources. 2. No Co2 emissions. 3. Only a small amount of uranium needed. 4. Very inexpensive. 5. High amounts of energy from just one plant.
6
Disadvantages Of Nuclear Energy Nuclear energy can be used for destructive purposes. The use of a large amount of energy from the power plant can be costly. The waste from the fission contains dangerous elements and are radioactive. Waste cannot be disposed of properly. Not renewable.
7
Chernobyl Chernobyl is located in the Ukraine (USSR back then) On April 26 1986, one of the Chernobyl plants exploded. Killed 10,000.
8
Three Mile Three Mile island is a nuclear power plant that is located in the Susquehanna River, south of Harrisburg PA. The nuclear core in the plant had a partial meltdown and caused radioactive gas to go into the air.
9
Extra Information Lithuania uses the most nuclear energy.
