The Banner Hammer Designed and constructed by: Mark Boudreau, Alex Cox, Nick Guernsey, Jake Henke

Step 1: the domino effect The force applied to the block of wood creates torque. The torque creates rotational motion. The rotational motion is transferred between the blocks Step 2: getting the ball rolling The rotational energy of the block is converted into rotation and linear energy in the ball.

Step 3: the setup The force of the ball creates tension in the string pulling the hammer up Step 4: hammer time The potential energy of the hammer is transferred to kinetic energy in the tennis ball

Step 5: the seesaw The platform pivots with the weight of the ball Step 6: the wrecking ball A string holding the banner is under the blocks The kinetic energy of the ball knocks over the blocks releasing the string and the banner

Tadaa!!

Construction Problems The ball wouldn’t fall from the cup The vibrations from the ball falling would shake the string loose from the blocks and display the banner prematurely The first block of wood wouldn’t balance with the ruler taped to it

Conclusions Anything that can go wrong will Theoretical physics doesn’t translate to real life Don’t listen to Jake EVER
