2 Introduction 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 What is an endangered animal?
Endangered animals are animals that are less than 500, 000 What is an extinct animal? An extinct animal is a animal that doesn’t exist anymore. For example, the Dodo bird. Lots of animals that are endangered will soon become extinct if we do not help to protect them. Are the animals safe? No. Last year, the Chinese Pink Nose River Dolphin became extinct! It’s a very sad story if you would like to read about it. It was a beautiful animal. 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

5 Poison Arrow Tree Frog Introducing, ‘The Poison Arrow Tree Frog’. Be careful with this animals as one touch can be deadly. Although beautiful, he is poisonous! The Frog lives on the South American continent and in Asia too. Can be found in tropical forests. He eats flies and insects and uses his long tongue to grab them. There are about 500,000 left, which is a lot. However, he is endangered because he lives in the forests, which are being destroyed all the time. This is called habitat destruction. We cut down the forests for wood for making fires or to sell to make furniture. We also make medicine from certain plants from the forests. 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

It lives in the forests of South America and eats berries and nuts. There are thought to be 500,000 left, which is a lot. However, he has the same problem as the Poison Arrow Frog. His habitat is destroyed to collect trees for wood. He is caught to keep as a pet, to keep in zoos, caught for his feathers and also to be in animals circus. 7 Panda Introducing the ‘Giant Panda’ which lives in Forest areas of China, mainly the Szechuan province. This beautiful animals eats almost exclusively bamboo! Because of farming, deforestation and house building, he is losing his home and becoming more and more endangered. He needs lots and lots of help to stay alive. It is thought that there are less than 5000 left in the world (which includes all the Pandas in the zoos). In the wild there are only 1000. 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

8 Adopt An Endangered Animal
Sponsoring an endangered animal means that you can pay some money each month towards that animal. I wanted to sponsor an Orangutan and found out that if I donate $10 to then I will receive the following things, a recent photograph, information about the animal and a cuddly toy. Sadly, you don’t get to keep the animal. Its probably for the best, as you wouldn’t know what to do with a Giant Panda anyway.
