2
What is a Quadrilateral?
3
A figure that has 4 sides and 4 angles. Example Square Rectangle
4
A Square is … A quadrilateral with all right angles. Which means there are 2 sets of parallel lines. All lines are equal. (or the same size)
5
A Rectangle is … A quadrilateral with all right angles. Which means there are 2 sets of parallel lines. One set of parallel lines will be longer than the other.
6
What is the Area of a Quadrilateral? Length times Width You may see it shown like this : A = L x W
7
LWLW
8
How we calculate “area” for a quadrilateral. L 10 W 6 L=10 blocks W= 6 blocks L x W = Area 10 x 6 = 60 Area = 60
9
What is the Area of this Quadrilateral? L = 8 W = 5 How many blocks ?
10
What is the Area of this Quadrilateral? L = 8 W = 5 Answer is 40 blocks.
11
What is the Area of this Quadrilateral? L = 10 W = 5 How many blocks ?
12
What is the Area of this Quadrilateral? L = 10 W = 5 Answer is 50 blocks
13
What is the Area of this Quadrilateral? L = 11 W = 4 How many blocks ?
14
What is the Area of this Quadrilateral? L = 11 W = 4 How many blocks ? Answer is 44 blocks
15
You do not have to see the blocks to count them as long as you know the length and width of your quadrilateral. You can work out the area of your quadrilateral.
16
What is the Area of this Quadrilateral? L = 10 W = 7 How many blocks ?
17
What is the Area of this Quadrilateral? L = 10 W = 7 How many blocks ? Answer is 70 blocks
18
What is the Area of this Quadrilateral? L = 8 W = 6 How many blocks ?
19
What is the Area of this Quadrilateral? L = 8 W = 6 How many blocks ? Answer is 48 blocks
