ONGOING TRAINING One of the most frequently cited explanations for a failed foster placement is the inability of the foster parent to manage child behavior problems. This is caused by: 1. A lack of relevant training 2. A lack of professional support 3. A lack of peer support

PURPOSE OF TRAINING Insure foster parents have the knowledge and ability to meet the child’s needs; Provides general and specific skill development; Provides a form of support; Insures retention of foster parents; Prepare foster parents for future needs; Provides an opportunity to evaluate the foster parent;

GROUP EXERCISE #4 Break up into small groups of 3 or 4. Refer to the child/family matches used in the previous exercise. Read the case scenarios of each family and make a recommendation for ongoing training to support the family and meet the child’s needs.
