What do coordinators do? Provides expertise and research on policies and requirements. Administrative support. Day-to-day program management. Point of contact and liaison. Wading through the NAS and milestones!

Coordinator Advocacy Committee (CAC) Includes seven coordinators (mix from large to small residency/fellowship programs) and three GME staff members. Goals: To build a strong leadership among coordinators at the U of U. Forum for coordinators to advocate for themselves. Educate PDs and Administrators in ways to support coordinators. To tackle issues raised in a recent survey.

Fall 2013 Survey of Coordinators 83% response rate 12+ different job titles. More than half expected to spend 50% or less of their time on coordinator duties. Other responsibilities! High turnover. Little to no travel support for career development. Discrepancy regarding number of program/residents. Often no back-up or cross-coverage. Job dissatisfaction 37.5% Overwhelmed with job duties 72% Considering resignation 39%

Recommendations Academic Coordinator Entry level or for someone with less administrative responsibilities. Grade D (hourly or exempt) Salary Range: Min. $30,900 – Max. $57,100 Academic Program Manager Manages, co-directs meetings, produces materials, communicates directly with other organizations, works closely with PD. Grade E (exempt) Salary Range: Min.$37,900 – Max. $70,100

Recommendations See your coordinator as part of your team. Be open to discussion. Review the recommended job descriptions, salary ranges, and FTE commitment.
