2 What is the Coordinated Program Review? “As one part of its accountability system, the DESE oversees local compliance with education requirements through the Coordinated Program Review (CPR).”

3 What programs will be reviewed? Special Education Civil Rights & Other Requirements Non-discrimination & Building Accessibility Section 504, Physical Restraint Time on Learning English Language Learner Education

4 What are the components of the CPR? Student Support Services Faculty, Staff & Administration School Facilities Program Evaluation Record Keeping Assessment of Student Progress Student identification & program placement Parent and Community involvement Curriculum and instruction

5 When will the CPR be occurring in our district? The DESE Team, consisting of 2 members, will be onsite in the district: December 12-15, 2011

6 What student records will be reviewed? The district has participated in self-study as a web-based monitoring program. Last year Special Education staff participated in the review of student records across all buildings, disability types, placements and types of team meetings which were submitted to the DESE. The DESE Chairperson then identified 6 more records as part of the site visit record review on Nov. 21 & 22, 2011.

7 Records continued: English Language Learner (ELL) and 504 records will be reviewed as well. Student folders have already been reviewed through our self-study and an additional 6 chosen by the liaison based on our self study.

8 Who will be interviewed? Specific guidelines were provided to determine who would be interviewed based on services, programs or particular roles in our district. All interviews are conducted individually.

9 What types of questions may be asked? Questions might be in terms of a particular student as well as your role in procedural processes: Team meetings Professional development opportunities Assessment of students Civil rights-online Restraint training-online 504 plans

10 Remember: The CPR team is not evaluating you, but is reviewing policies and procedures of the school district!

11 Will the DESE Team be visiting classrooms? Yes, the DESE Team will be touring school buildings to determine compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements and to view both general and special education classroom space.

12 Classroom visits continued: Specific classrooms may be visited to observe a particular setting.

13 What is the final outcome/ product of the CPR visit? An exit interview is expected to occur on: December 15, 2011 Within 60 business days following the exit interview the district will be issued a report of findings.

14 Outcomes Findings may be rated: Commendable Implemented Partially Implemented Not Implemented

15 Final Report. The district will need to submit a “Corrective Action Plan” for any concerns noted in the report. All areas of partial or non-compliance must be corrected within 1 year.
