15.2 b a c kn e x t h o m e Carriers Carriers are classified into two groups: Private carriers Transport goods or persons for a fee. Trucks, moving vans, ships, delivery services. Common carriers Transport goods or persons for all who apply for that service. Trains, buses, airplanes, ships, subways. Monopolies which are subject to regulation.

15.4 b a c kn e x t h o m e Bills of Lading Straight, or nonnegotiable Consignee alone is designated as the one to whom goods are to be delivered. Consignee’s rights may be transferred, but the third party obtains no greater rights than shipper or consignee had. Order, or negotiable Must be presented to the carrier before the carrier can safely deliver the goods.

How long does liability last for a carrier of persons? Until they have left the terminal. Does a carrier of persons assume a responsibility of reasonable safety? Yes. Care for the guest’s property Exceptions: losses occurring from acts of God, acts of a public enemy, acts of a public authority, acts of other guests, or inherent nature of the property.
