Are You Smarter Then a Junior? By: Michael Kaul
2
Question 1 What is the time it takes to complete one cycle? (Time for one wavelength to pass a specific point) And what units are associated with this?
3
Answer The period of a wave…. Corresponding units- Seconds(s)
4
Question 2 If some wave has a velocity of 337.3 m/s… and a frequency of 192Hz, then what is the wavelength of this particular wave?
5
Answer Because wavelength= velocity over frequency, you take 337.3 and divide that by 192….. FINAL ANSWER= 1.757m
6
Question 3 What is the number of oscillations or cycles a wave makes every second ( measured in Hz)
7
Answer This is known as the frequency of the wave…( waves over seconds)
8
Question 4 Can you name two ways to solve for the velocity of any given wave?
9
Answer 1) Velocity= Distance/time 2) Velocity= Wavelength*Frequency 3) Velocity= Wavelength/Time
10
Question 5 What exactly is a wavelength and how can it be measured?
11
Answer A wavelength is the distance from some exact point on a wave, to the same exact point on another wave….measured in meters…
12
Question 6 How can you tell the difference between a transverse wave and a longitudinal wave?
13
Answer Visually, a longitudinal wave moves in the same direction that the wave is being produced….it also makes “compressions”. A transverse wave moves in the opposite direction that it being produced…looks much more traditional…
