Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
Presented by: Navneet Tyagi, Subani Thapa and Muhammad Khan VoIP is basically a clever "reinvention of the wheel” (according Robert Valdes and Dave Roos; How VoIP Works). Bright welcome everyone to this crisp spring morning, today we(Navneet Tyagi, Subani Thapa and Muhammad Khan) are talking about voice over Internet protocol(VoIP)

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
A technology. Used for voice transmission. Through Internet Protocol (IP) In real time . Voice over Internet Protocol, commonly known as VOIP, is a technology used for the transmission of voice information using the Internet Protocol (IP). It is a Internet Telephony, a universal term, which isused to explain transmitting two-way voice over the Internet in real (or near-real) time. IP telephony, Internet telephony, voice over broadband (VoBB), broadband telephony, IP communications, and broadband phone are other related terms commonly associated with VOIP.

Traditional Telephone System vs VoIP
VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is the latest phone system technology. VoIP phone systems convert regular telephone calls into digital data delivering the voice communications over the Internet, or a packet-switched network. VoIP is the internet to make telephone calls as opposed to a traditional phone line. VoIP phone services continue to advance and are becoming highly reliable and popular. Traditional Telephone System is a uses analogue (PSTN) or digital (ISDN) lines, which work together with on-premise hardware and are connected by a series of telephone handsets; where as VoIP Solution has no on-premise hardware, meaning less initial expenditure. Traditional Telephone System is calls routed via ISDN and billed by your telecoms service provider in the traditional way, where as VoIP Solution is all calls are routed through an internet (ADSL) connection which often brings lower call charges, and free internal and site-to-site calls within the business. Traditional Telephone System is an extra PSTN lines must be purchased in order to make more than one telephone call at a time, where as VoIP Solution is a multiple calls can be made down the same ADSL line, with no need to acquire additional lines

Voice over Inrernet Protocol (VoIP)
How (VoIP) works Telephone transporters Digitize the signals between exchanges Over the Internet in packets In real time . Voice over Inrernet Protocol (VoIP) The old telephone systems were taking voice through analogue signaling over devoted electronic circuits made for that purpose to the telephone exchange – these days the telephone transporters digitize the signals between exchanges, and some even take help of VOIP. In VOIP, the digitization of voice signal transmitted over the Internet in packets, in a similar mode an with a huge file attachment is send over the Internet. Voice over IP (VoIP, abbreviation of voice over Internet Protocol) commonly known as communication protocols, technologies, methodologies and transmission techniques, which is involve in the delivery of voice communications and multimedia sessions over IP networks; over the internet in packets in real time.

VoIP Growing Statistics Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
In US, VoIP market Share increased From 10% to 26% In two years timeframe Another 23 % fall is expected in next 5 years Same trend in European market too By 2020, VoIP will forfeit big market share of telecom industry Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) In a report submitted by SNL Kagan, US families rapidly replace traditional telephone system with VoIP. In two years timeframe of 2007 and 2008, the share of landline telephone marked reduced from 90% to 74%. Experienced professional in this industry predict further 23% fall in next five years. It is forecasted by analysts that by 2015 fixed and mobile voice minutes made up of Cellular VOIP will share 23% in the EU and 28% in US. However, VOIP is not going to replace traditional telephone in near future but it will give big dent on telephone companies’ margins in next eight years. It is expected that by 2020, it will cost global telecom industry by $479 billion representing almost 7% of total voice revenues.

VoIP Advantages for households
A technology. Used for voice transmission. Through Internet Protocol (IP) In real time . Practical alternate for the traditional system Easy interconnectivity with old system Service Mobility & Phone portability Cost effective International calls are more cheaper Calls among VoIP consumers are free A very significant aspect of Voice over IP that is it’s easy interconnectivity with the PSTN – the facility for VOIP consumers to call individuals on traditional telephones, and because of this facility it is very much beneficial for most of the households. The leg on the PSTN is possible to be very economical and cheaper. Service mobility and phone portability.

VoIP Advantages for Business community
Offers all services given by traditional system Offers business recovery and disaster recovery Flexibility with compare to traditional system No special system is required for installation Provides multimedia features Click to call Video calling and video conferencing VOIP is a cost effective, relatively new technology as compared to traditional phone service or cell phone communications. One of the major advantages of VOIP over other communication technologies is that it’s cost effective, due to the fact that it does not need any new infrastructure, since it works over internet. Which is one of the sole reasons that this technology has a very bright future? VOIP will become one of the mainstream ways of communication is because it can be deployed on a variety of platforms in today's day and age. Which can range from tablets: i.e. iPod’s and galaxy tab, smart phones: like iPhone, android, windows phone and others.

DISADVANTAGES VoIP Disadvantages
VoIP dependent on technological devices Wall power is mandatory for running VoIP Quality of call sometimes not effective Emergency calls are challenge in VoIP VoIP dependent on individual PC’s varying specifications A technology. Used for voice transmission. Through Internet Protocol (IP) In real time . Line of sight: transmitters and receivers must be almost directly aligned (i.e. able to see each other) to communicate. Blocked by common materials: people, walls, plants, etc. can block transmission. Hauge disadvantage of VOIP is that it depends on wall power. If no power is there in office or home like most of the underdeveloped countries face this problem, VOIP will not work. Emergency calls also turn out to be a big issue with VOIP. As VOIP uses IP-addressed phone numbers, there is no way out to locate the geographical location of the caller. It depend on technological devices and sometimes quality of call not effective.

Opportunities for VoIP
New series of options in business communication Allow flexibility to supervisor for contacting employees in remote areas Assist in facilitate multi player gaming technology Add telephony functions to IPTV Instant Messaging (IM) applications VOIP is a growing technology and has many opportunities in today’s world where more and more things and technologies are becoming internet dependent. One of the new opportunities for VOIP is the fact that it is starting to be considered a communication option by businesses along side cell phone, traditional phone lines, and radio communication’s options available to businesses. VOIP has many advantages that the business community can use, and of course one of the biggest one includes the simple fact that VOIP offers all the services that traditional phone service gives with the fraction of the cost. VOIP also offers easy business recovery and disaster recovery, since it’s all internet based businesses do not need their physical location to retrieve all the their contacts in case anything goes wrong. They can simply use the internet from anywhere in the world and conduct their business activities without being affected. VOIP offers exceptional flexibility when it comes to a phone service, and does not need any special system or technical installation, it can be used anywhere throughout the world where ever one can find an internet connection.
11
Since VOIP can be used in remote areas where traditional phone service cannot reach, it can be used as a means of communications between employees and employers. VoIP is already a key communication component in multiplayer video gaming technology. With the above being said VOIP has many more opportunities and applications that it can be used in for instance. It can add telephony features to IPTV and instant messaging applications.
