Where it lives The Sydney funnel web spider lives in rainforest or shady damp areas found in the New South Wales on the east coast of Australia.

What it looks like Males are more lightly built than females. They are medium to large varying from 1cm-5cm in body length. Body color can vary from black to brown. The front part of their body is always sparsely haired and glossy.

How it kills They kill by biting you with their very sharp fangs. They rise up on their back legs and strike with a downward thrust. Sometimes you can see the venom dripping off their fangs.

Interesting Facts The male of the species is the most dangerous of the Australian spiders. This is unusual. Normally the female spider is the most dangerous. Australian spiders will often bite without injecting venom.
