Objective: Find the area and perimeter of a square.

Perimeter: the distance around the outside of a figure!

Example 1: Find the perimeter of a square with a side length of 12 cm. P = 4s P = 4(12) 12 cm. P = 48 cm

Example 2: Find the side length of a square with a perimeter of 32 cm. P = 4s 32 = 4s 8 cm. 8 = s

Example 3: P = 4s 20 = 4(x+2) 20 = 4x + 8 12 = 4x x = 3
Find the side length of a square with sides x +2 and the perimeter 20. P = 4s 20 = 4(x+2) 20 = 4x + 8 x + 2 12 = 4x s = x + 2 x = 3 s = 3 + 2 s = 5
