10 EXPORTISM AND IMPORTISM Exports Exports of coffee in 2001 generated $11 million. Cocoa and tobacco are also grown for export. The Dominican Republic is one of the top 10 major producer and exporter of cocoa in the world. Imports The main imports were oil and oil products, vehicles, boilers and machinery, house appliances, iron and steel, plastic materials, carton and pharmacy products. In relation to consumption products, the main imports in 2002 were fat and animal oils, wheat, milk and dairy products, cereals, seeds and fish.
