2 Responsibilities Your 3rd grader is responsible for: * following safety rules * respecting the opinions of others * taking care of all school materials * treating others fairly * doing his or her best

3 Expected Differences in Third Grade Challenging curriculum Pacing that requires self focus and discipline Self motivation and independent work habits Increased stamina Minimized time for socializing Daily homework with parent support Reinforced school expectations at home

4 Daily Schedule Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 8:10-10:45 A. M. Class 10:45-11:30 P.M. Class 11:30-12:00 Recess 12:00-12:30 Lunch 12:30-2:15 P.M. Class continues 2:15 -3:00 Art, Music, P.E., Library Thursday TIGER TIME 9:15-10:00) (Switch classes at 11:25)

6 Tips on Attendance Arrive on Time Classroom activities cannot be duplicated Many hands-on activities will be missed if tardy or absent If your child is absent an excuse note is needed within 2 days

7 Take Home Folders and Planners Check your child’s Take Home Folders and initial their Planner Daily Planners contain homework assignments and notes from teachers Parents may also use the planner as a form of communication

8 Ways to Help Your Third Grade Student with Curriculum

9 Reading and Writing Read and talk about a variety of texts asking your child to discuss what they have read. Model reading at home. Read silently for up to a 15-20 minute time period. Writing improvement develops with reading improvement.

10 Practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. Practice problem-solving skills related to tasks, such as cooking, shopping, playing games, and telling time. Perfect time-telling skills and work with money. Use mathematical vocabulary. Mathematics and Science

11 Conferences  Sign up sheets for conferences are outside the door…please sign up tonight.  Throughout the year teachers will contact you if your child is experiencing difficulty.

12 Grading Policies Major Grades: - tests -projects -unit assessments -grades below a 70 will be re-taught and reassessed for a maximumgrade of 80 Daily grades will not be reassessed
