1 Break the Silence: SE Students Against Sexual Violence

2 Situational Analysis A large number of sexually violent (SV) attacks go unreported making it a “silent epidemic”. Providing a clear definition of SV is necessary for a victim to report an attack. Retaliation, shame, and disbelief by others are the main reasons why accidents go unreported. SV can cause long-term health damage such as pregnancy, STD’s, and depression.

3 Core Problem/Opportunity Too many SV attacks go unreported. The opportunity is to help SE students recognize and report SV in an effort to prevent future attacks.

4 Research 20% of women in the US have been raped at sometime in their lives. 1 out of 71 men in the US have been raped at sometime in their lives. For young women the most common place for SV crimes to occur is school. 81% of women who experience rape have long-term and/or short-term effects. More than 95% of students who are sexually assaulted remain silent.
