2 Overview and objectives WP2.1 will select the most suitable existing or developing communication standard(s) for the delivery of broadband services from aerial platforms Candidate standards include IEEE 802.16, IEEE 802.20, HIPERACCESS, DVB-S, DVB-RCS, DVB-T... Analysis of existing broadband communication standards Identification of critical aspects Investigation of technological constraints Selection of the most suitable candidate communication standards for different operating scenarios identified in WP1

5 Inputs and previous work Inputs required: operating scenarios, candidate appllications and services From WP1.1 – Applications identification and selection required RF link margins From WP2.2 – Propagation aspects and diversity methods Previous work in the HeliNet project: included the review of standards for the fixed broadband application – T1 “System level design aspects for the delivery of broadband services over HeliNet” identified IEEE 802.16 as the most suitable candidate for the FBWA scenario

6 Expected outcomes M8 M8: Identification and draft specification of candidate standards for delivery of broadband services from aerial platforms M15 M15: Identification of critical aspects and technological constraints of candidate standards Both feeding mainly into: WP2.3 WP2.3 to propose the most suitable adaptive modulation schemes and coding techniques WP2.4 WP2.4 to develop suitable resourse and mobility management strategies WP2.5 WP2.5 to solve interoperability and define mapping of QoS parameters between layers WP3.1 WP3.1 to develop communications equipment for trials supporting the selected standard
