Early and Mid Career Awards  Starting Investigator Research Grant (SIRG) For those who are 3-8 years post-PhD and who have NEVER been employed as an independent (i.e., unsupervised) researcher  Career Development Award (CDA) For researchers who are 3-15 years post-PhD and who have already moved into permanent or fixed-term independent research positions  President of Ireland Young Researcher Award (PIYRA) For outstanding researchers who are 3-8 years post-PhD and who have exceptional track records for their current career stage  Future Research Leaders Award For outstanding researchers who are 3-15 years post-PhD and who have exceptional track records for their current career stage. Future Research Leaders Award  To recruit top-tier early career researchers to carry out their research in Ireland who have demonstrated proven potential by having secured research funding and accumulated supervisory experience  Must have received PhD in last 3 to 15 years  Funding: Up to €1M over five years  A focus will be placed on recruitment and the call will be open to researchers based outside of Ireland as well as those recently recruited from overseas (within 2 years).  The call will run as a deadline call.  Call to be announced in Q4 2015 with a deadline in Q1 2016. 10. Royal Society – Science Foundation Ireland University Research Fellowship  Key aim: To fund early career researchers (3-8 years Postdoctoral experience) who have the potential to become leaders in their fields.  Covers all areas of life and physical sciences, including engineering and mathematics but excluding clinical medicine and any researcher addressing a direct biomedical question.  Funding: Salary on Research Fellow scale, €15,000 research expenses in first year, €13,000 in subsequent years  Duration: 5 years, possibility of a 3 year renewal  Key Dates: 2016 call likely to launch in July 2016  Application and review process handled by the Royal Society.  Awards funded by SFI

11. SFI-HRB-Wellcome Trust Biomedical Research Partnership  Key aim: To fund outstanding researchers pursuing programmes of research excellence in biomedical and clinical fields.  Sir Henry Wellcome Fellowships - for researchers with no more than two years of post doc experience.Applications twice a year  Research Career Development Fellowship – for researchers with no more than seven years post doc experience. Applications three times a year  Senior Research Fellowship in Basic Biomedical Science – for researchers with between 7 and 12 years post doc experience. Applications three times a year  Career Re-entry Fellowship – Provide postdoctoral scientists who have had a recent break of at least two years with the opportunity to return to high-quality research

12. Wellcome Trust Seed Awards  Seed Awards provide responsive, flexible funding, enabling researchers to develop a novel idea to a position where they would be able to be competitive for a larger award from the Wellcome Trust, or another source.  Particularly suited to researchers at the start of their independent careers  Cannot have held substantive funding for research in the 12 months before the closing date.  Up to £100K and normally for up to two years. Cannot be used to pay own salary.  Deadlines three times a year

13. TIDA (Technology Innovation Development Award)  Enables researchers to focus on first steps of an applied research project which may have a commercial benefit if further developed  A Key Objective of TIDA is to prepare researchers for the next step of commercialisation e.g. EI Commercialisation Funds  Eligibility: one of (A) SFI funded; (B) Non-SFI funded (Secured grant as lead/co PI of >€200K); or (C) Working in SFI-funded lab  Must have PhD & be senior author on at least 3 publications  Funding: €100K direct costs over up to 12 months  tida@sfi.ie tida@sfi.ie Dr Stephen O’Driscoll

Conference and Workshop  Key Aim : To facilitate international and national conferences and workshops of strategic value hosted in the Republic of Ireland  Eligibility: Do not need to be an SFI award holder. Post-doctoral researchers are eligible to apply for funding for events that are of an appropriate scale, i.e. workshop and possibly small conferences  Must have the support of the Research Body and contract of employment with the university must be of sufficient length to allow for submission of final reports.  conference@sfi.ie conference@sfi.ie
