Park It! Park It! Challenge #1: An exploration in engineering and design. Park It! You have just been hired at a very prestigious engineering and architectural firm. Your new client, Northern Kentucky University, wants your design team to build a new parking garage for the new science center. Your team must design and build a prototype. In addition, you must design a test to ensure your garage is the strongest design. You will be competing with other local firms for the contract. Performance and budget will be considered when determining the best design. Good luck!
3
Using the supplies provided, design and build a parking garage that will support the most cars.
4
Basic Framework for engineering design process Design Prototype Research Simulate Define the Problem Re-evaluate
5
Step one: Define the problem; Research (discuss what you know about parking garages, consider materials available for prototype and Sketch!)
6
Step two: Build a prototype! (Be sure to test along the way and keep accurate records for each test and any changes you make along the way. Keep a list of supplies used and amounts on your budget sheet)
7
Step three: Simulate (final test to check performance or strength of your garage and review your budget)
8
Step four: Re-evaluate (analyze data, reflect on what can be improved and make changes)
