Gathering-Members of homo sapiens who spent many hours a day gathering food. Hunting-Members of Homo sapiens who spent many hours hunting animals. Technology-The proper application of knowledge to develop new tools or ways to make and do things. Homo Erectus-Learned to make fire by striking flint stones together.

Plow-A tool used to cut, lift, and turn over soil. Irrigation-Ways to move water to land. Domesticate-To tame plants or animals for human use. Slash and Burn farming-A system of farming in which thick forestlands are cut and burned to prepare the soil for planting.

Bronze-Tin and copper mixed together. Irrigation-Ways to move water to land. Polytheism-Believing in more than one god. Innovation-A new way of doing things.

Papyrus-A paper like material on which ancient Egyptians wrote. Hieroglyphs-Pictures or symbols that stand for sounds, words, or ideas. Rosetta Stone-They used it to un code hieroglyphics. Pyramid-A structure that served as tombs for Egyptians rulers.

Isthmus-A small strip of land connecting larger land areas. Harbors-A sheltered place with deep water close to shore. Peninsula-A stretch of land almost completely surrounded by water. Island-A land mass entirely surrounded by water.

Concrete-A construction material motley made out of aggregate and water, it is used for things like buildings and walk ways. Colosseum-The largest stadium of Roman empire, located near the center of Rome. Road- An open public way for the passage of vehicles, people and animals. Aqueduct-A system of bridges and canals that carry water from a natural source, such as a river, to a town
