Man, street These are common nouns. A common noun names any person, place, or thing.

Mr. Baker, Main Street These are proper nouns. A proper noun names a particular person, place, or thing.
The first sentence says man, but the second sentence says the name of a man, Mr. Baker. Proper nouns are capitalized to show that they are proper nouns.
