2 What is it? ○ Envirothon is an annual competition in which teams compete for recognition and scholarships by demonstrating their knowledge of environmental science and natural resource management. ○ Includes 5 categories:- ○ Aquatics ○ Soils ○ Forestry ○ Wildlife ○ Current Environmental Issues ○ State Competitions: High School teams have to do an Oral Presentation that requires you to present your knowledge of all the tested subjects and use critical thought to solve a complex environmental problem and present your solution to a panel of judges. ○ Problem is given at the competition! You get 65 minutes to prepare and make a poster. ○ You will present as a team.

3 When and Who? ○ The people who can enter must be a team of 3-5 people. 5 people per team is the best! ○ More than one team from the same school can enter. ○ Must be separate registrations. ○ This year’s regional competition is scheduled for 3-18-15 (may change…) ○ Registration forms and notification of the exact competition date will be sent. ○ I will immediately notify you when they are sent.

4 How this works… ○ In the spring, there are eight regional competitions in North Carolina. ○ Our region (Area 8) will have the Southern Piedmont Envirothon competition March 18th, 2015 at Catawba College Center for the Environment in Salisbury. ○ A test is given to select the seven highest scoring teams from each region. ○ GOOD NEWS!! Tests are taken as a team! (YES!!!) You can help each other out! ○ Selected teams will advance to the State Envirothon competition on April 24th and 25 th, 2015 at Cedarock Park in Burlington, NC.
