2 EGYPTIAN ART Every example of Egyptian art from any time period strictly adheres to the same style. – There is a code for producing art: FRONTALISM: Head of character is always drawn in profile, while the body is seen from the front. –Eye is drawn in full –Legs face same way as head –Body is in rigid position –Animals and slaves drawn slightly different. –Pharaohs and gods drawn in a “severe style”, stiff.

11 EGYPTIAN ART Akhenaten: –Changed the Religion and art in Egypt during his reign. –Rigid poses of older art was abandoned. –He ordered artists to portray him in relaxed, natural poses. –So, he was portrayed as he looked. No attempt at idealism. –Style of Art is called: The Amarna Style. –After Tut’s death the style reverted back.
